PCB chairman asks Asif, Amir, Butt to meet him
Pakistan cricket board chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 has called upon the three beleaguered Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, to meet him at London. The trio will go to London on Wednesday to meet the PCB chairman, after it has been alleged by a British tabloid that they had been involved in match-fixing in the Lord’s Test.
The Lord’s Test mach was won by England by an innings and 225 runs, which is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s heaviest ever defeat. What makes it even more surprising is that England was 102/7 at one stage and went on to make more than 400 in their first innings.
Earlier, the PCB chairman, Butt had said that the PCB will not take any action against the players named in the video, until the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed had accepted money in exchange for passing on information that Asif and Amir will bowl no-balls at particular moments in the game. They had done exactly that.
According to the team manager, Yawar Saeed, the three cricketers may join the team later after meeting the chairman at the hotel.
According to a famous cricket website, Cricinfo, the PCB had been pressurised by the ICC and the ECB to drop the three players involved in the video till they were cleared. However, Butt had come out with a statement that the PCB will not drop anyone till they are found guilty. It is a wonder then, why the three players skipped practice and will meet the chairman.
The question now that the Pakistan team may face is that if the three are dropped from the side, along with the fourth player named in the video – Kamran Akmal – the side will be left with only 12 players. This will mean that the Pakistani team may have to call upon reinforcements. Some of those who were involved in the Test matches but did not make it to the Test squad, like Imran Farhat, may be called upon.
