following their involvement in a spot-fixing scandal.
The board has spoken in the wake of a media statement made by Asif some days back, alleging the governing body of taking no action to handle the scandal and defend its players.
The PCB authorities reveal that they have dealt with the matter properly and legally in order to avert such type of heinous incidents in the future.
A board press release stated, “PCB notes with deep regret that an attempt is being made through the media that PCB failed in its duty to protect the three cricketers who were accused of spot-fixing.”
It further elaborated, “Therefore the bald allegation by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 of falsely accusing PCB of dereliction of duty is incorrect and an afterthought.”
Butt, Asif and Amir were reported to have allegedly accepted huge amounts of money from a gambler and were involved in spot-fixing during their Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, at Lord’s in August 2010.
After the publication of the report by a British tabloid, the ICC took serious notice of the matter and a stern action against the trio, once the allegations against them proved to be true. They were banned from playing every type of cricket for different
periods of time, starting from five years.
The players, whose International careers have almost been dumped by the ban, are throwing their wrath on the PCB which, they think, has done nothing to bring them back to the field.
On the other hand, the board claims that it had introduces a number of preventive measures in the backdrop of the spot-fixing scam which has tarnished the image of the team badly and made the other players dubious too.
Some of the key steps of the PCB in this regard include scrutinising the players’ agents, checking their assets regularly and including an anti-corruption clause in their contracts.
