Pakistan Cricket Board clarifies stance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sahibzada-Mohammad-Shahid-Khan-Afridi-c87933 – No personal grudge
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified that the proceedings against Afridi are as per the board’s stipulations and are not a result of any personal grudge against the former skipper.
PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmed shared that the board respects the player’s professional achievements and contributions to the Pakistani team, but will not be compromising on misconduct.
The row between the PCB and the former skipper started following the conclusion of the Caribbean tour, where Afridi criticised the team’s head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193, on media, alleging unnecessary interference in team affairs.
The PCB took strict notice Afridi’s media adventures and removed him from One-Day captaincy just before the ODI series against Ireland. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, the Test skipper was given charge of the limited overs side as well, until a permanent replacement was
found.
"So, as a disciplinary step he was removed as captain for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 series and disciplinary process was initiated against him for criticising the board after his retirement," Subhan explained.
Following the sacking, Afridi refused to play in the ODI series against the Irish and announced his retirement from International cricket directly to media, without informing any of the board’s officials.
The former skipper also went ahead to critise the board and stated that he would not play any cricket under the current management, speicifically, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128.
Taking notice of the Afridi’s retirement and remarks, the PCB issued him a show cause notice and dissolved his central contract. The board also revoked all the non-objection certificates issued to him.
In retaliation, Afridi engaged legal counsel to forward his case, since he required the NOCs in order to play cricket abroad.
PCB arranged a disciplinary committee meeting on June 8, 2011, where Afridi was asked to provide an explanation for his conduct.
However, Afridi refused to settle the matter with the board and instead filed a legal petition in the Singh High Court, which deferred the hearing to June 16, 2011, seeking a response from the PCB.
Boom Boom Afridi is adamant to fight the legal battle, despite his career being at stake. He believes that other oppressed players, who cannot raise their voice, will also benefit from Afridi’s sacrifice.
