It was expected that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would be announcing the names of the thirty probable players for the 2011 World Cup at the conclusion of the training camp in Lahore.
However, the board has once again left everyone bewildered by delaying the announcement of the players which the selectors deem fit for the World Cup. No official reason has been given by the PCB for the delay.
However, it is strongly rumoured by different sources within the PCB that some senior players such as Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal, Danish Kaneria and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan are likely to face an axe.
So far, the PCB has not received any clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal. Both these players are suspected by the ICC of being involved in corrupt practices in cricket
and until the ICC clears them, the PCB cannot include them in the national team. Same is the case with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314; although he has been cleared of any wrongdoings during a county match in England by the English police, so far the ICC has not cleared his
name for induction in the Pakistan squad for the World Cup.
Mohammad Yousuf is likely to be left out because in recent years he has become injury-prone and is likely to handicap the team if any of his injuries resurface during the hectic World Cup. Rana Naved will probably be ignored in
favour of a younger player.
The Board has also delayed the finalization of the team for the New Zealand tour. The selection committee has been observing the players for the last two days and according to Pakistan chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, only fit players
will be given a chance to show their mettle in New Zealand.
Although it is not certain, the players who get selected and manage to give an impressive performance in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 are most likely to make it to the squad for the forthcoming 2011 World Cup. The selection of fit players is even
more important because injured players are always going to be a liability for the team.
