Pakistan Cricket Board demands explanation from coach Waqar Younis
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has demanded an explanation from the national team head coach, Waqar Younis for the statements that he made regarding the delay in appointment of a captain for the 2011 World Cup.
PCB media manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Sarwar-c78422 told the press, “We have asked him to explain his statement over the captaincy." He reiterated that the coach was also under the PCB contract and in accordance, the management and players are not
supposed to give statements to the media without first informing the Board.
Earlier in the day, Waqar had criticized the board for not naming the skipper when the 15-member squad was announced on Tuesday. He made these comments while addressing a press conference after his side won the two-match Test series
in New Zealand against the Black Caps at Basin Reserve, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
"I am surprised that the board has delayed announcing the captain. I don't know the reasons for this but personally I think the captain should have been named with the team," Waqar said.
This is Pakistan’s most comfortable win after nearly four years against a side that is usually a very tough outfit to beat at home. The last time Pakistan secured a series win was in 2006.
Pakistan have mostly struggled in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and their record has never been good in this part of the world. However, this time around the green shirts pulled off an astounding performance and won the Test series under the leadership
of newly appointed Test skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972.
Not naming the skipper has created uncertainty within the team and has left everyone wondering as to who would be leading the team. Waqar perhaps is not wrong in questioning the Board and instead of sending him a show cause notice,
PCB should reveal the reason behind its decision of delaying the appointment of skipper.
The Board has named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 as the ODI skipper for the ODI series in New Zealand; however, he has not been named as the skipper for the World Cup.
The decision by the board to hide the name of the skipper for the mega event has received tremendous criticism from all quarters. Many former Pakistan players have expressed their utter disappointment over the board’s immature
decision. Former players have also questioned the board for releasing the names of the 15-member squad in a press release rather than calling a press conference. According to them, the World Cup is such an event that the team should have been announced in
a press conference held by the chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319.
Such actions by the PCB would only encourage politics within the team and might affect the players performance as a unit.
