Pakistan Cricket Board denies being contacted by Zulqarnain Haider
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has clarified that runaway wicketkeeper, Zulqarnain Haider has made no contact with the Board regarding his financial situation.
Two days ago, the wicketkeeper, who is currently residing in England, claimed that he had run out of cash and had demanded the PCB to release 16000 Pounds that they owe him for playing in the national team.
"I have not received any money from the board, and now I am facing financial problems, as I have stayed here and survived with the money I had brought from Dubai," he said.
However, it was revealed today by a source in the PCB that the player had not contacted anyone in the PCB through official or unofficial channels.
"The last time he spoke to the board was when the committee was preparing its report- since then he has made no effort to contact us," a source conveyed.
It was further revealed that the Board wanted the player to come back to Pakistan in order to resolve all matters, but the player has shown no interest in returning back to his native country.
The player, after deserting his national team in the middle of the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033, fled to the United Kingdom, claiming that he had received life threats from a bookmaker who wanted him to lose matches while playing
for Pakistan. Following this, the PCB immediately suspended his central contract because the player had violated the board's code of conduct. However, Haider made headlines again when he stated on his Facebook profile that he would be revealing the names of
individuals in Pakistan involved with fixing matches. Within just a day of that, his family claimed that they had received threatening calls and requested the Pakistan government to provide them security. The wicketkeeper then applied for asylum in the United
Kingdom as he refused to return to his country ever again.
Talking about the matter, the board official said that the PCB was practicing a wait and see policy because the board did not want to create problems for the player regarding his asylum request.
"We can't do anything until he returns to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. (Once he does,) we will decide if we have to take any disciplinary action against him. We are not doing anything because we don't want to make things difficult for him in London while his application is
being considered", the official reiterated.
The official further clarified that the board was not going to make any payments to the wicketkeeper until his case was cleared.
