Pakistan Cricket Board eyeing an International Cricket Council Inquiry into Shane Warne’s prediction
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt has decided to raise the issue of former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne’s predictions regarding the match between India and England that ended in a draw in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 in International Cricket
Council’s (ICC) executive board meeting.
Warne had predicted a “draw” regarding the outcome of the much hyped clash between the hosts and England. He made this prediction via tweeting on his twitter page, an exercise which has become quite famous among cricketers these days. His tweet said, “Looking
forward to the game between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England today, it should be a cracker. My prediction is a tie!”
Talking to reporters, Butt seemed puzzled as to how a person could make such an accurate prediction about the outcome of a match which no one could have thought of. “We will raise the matter and ask the ICC to conduct a fair inquiry into the matter,” he
said.
Warne’s predictions have raised eye brows in a time when the game of cricket is marred by allegations of spot-fixing. Everything that happens in cricket is now being looked at by a scrutinizing eye. In such times a former player who in the past had accepted
his involvement in match-fixing came out and predicted the most unpredictable thing in the world of cricket because people might be familiar with football matches ending in draws but a draw in a 50-over game of cricket is a rarity.
The reason why http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 now wants the ICC to investigate the matter is the very fact that three Pakistani players have become the first players in the history of the sport to have been convicted in a case spot-fixing. The players include former Test skipper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993.
The players were busted by a local British tabloid which with the help of a sting operation. uncovered the links of the trio with a bookmaker named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed. In a video Majeed was seen taking money from an undercover journalist and assuring the delivery
of deliberate no-balls at precise period of time. He assured that he would pay the players to bowl the deliveries.
Shockingly during the Lord’s Test between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 the controversial no-balls were delivered by Amir and Asif, upon which the evidence was provided to the local police by the tabloid. These revelations rattled the world of cricket and the ICC
was forced to take drastic steps in order to curb this new type of corruption in the sport.
The ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 is a big test for cricket’s governing body in order to show its sincerity towards eliminating match-fixing/spot-fixing from the game which was once known as the game of gentlemen.
So far the ICC has not given any statement regarding the possibility of investigating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 on making such accurate predictions about the outcome of a match which is currently the best match of the tournament.
