Pakistan Cricket Board finds away venues not feasible
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not keen to host series at neutral venues because of financial concerns.
With no international teams willing to visit to Pakistan because of security concerns, PCB’s reluctance to host cricket at away venues raises alarming concerns about the Men in Green’s international cricket future.
Earlier, the PCB was requested by the cricket authorities in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) to inform them in advance about hosting a cricket series.
Speaking on the matter, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmed said, “Long-term planning to host international cricket away from Pakistan is something, which is not acceptable and feasible for us. We are looking at potential venues to host Sri Lanka
but we have to look up the viability and the cost effectiveness”.
He also insisted that by making long-term plans for arranging home events abroad, Pakistan will weaken its stance towards the resumption of international cricket, which has been on halt for nearly two years.
Subhan, revealed that the PCB was satisfied by the outcome of the Afghan team’s tour to Pakistan, where the tourists played a three-match One Day International series against Pakistan-A.
Currently, the PCB is looking into the options of hosting a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the UAE after the Lankans refused to tour the terror hit country this year.
International cricket has been absent in Pakistan since 2009, after the touring Sri Lankan team was attacked by terrorists. The players escaped with seven injured, while eight Pakistani nationals were killed in the devastating attack.
The series was postponed and since then, other countries have refrained from sending their teams to Pakistan, fearing a similar attack on their teams.
During the World Cup 2011, PCB http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, held meetings with delegations from other member boards and tried to convince them to send their national teams to Pakistan.
However, experts believe that after the latest refusal by the Sri Lankan board to tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, other Test playing nations will not visit in the near future.
