PCB rule out Danish Kaneria’s immediate comeback to the national side
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday, ruled out Danish Kaneria’s immediate return to the national side.
A PCB top official, on the condition of anonymity, revealed that they are still awaiting Kaneria’s statement that he had given to the Essex police last year, when he was under investigation in context of being involved in spot-fixing in county cricket.
The board insisted that the out-of-favour leg-spinner would first have to satisfy the integrity committee of PCB before he could be cleared for selection in the Pakistan cricket team.
"We have been asking Danish to provide us with the statement he gave to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 police when he was under investigation in the spot-fixing scandal in county cricket last year. But so far he has not provided us with the statement," said the board official
while talking to a leading news agency.
The PCB official said that there are only two ways for Kaneria to be considered for selection in the national team. First, the probe committee complete the investigations and conclude the case,  or the alleged spinner show the integrity committee the statement
he gave to the Essex police during investigation.
"They are only two ways for Kaneria to be considered for national selection again. First the police complete their investigations and conclude the case against Westfield without any more involvement from Kaneria or he has to show the integrity committee
the statement he gave to the police during the course of the investigations," said the official.
Kaneria and his Essex teammate, Mervyn Westfield, were last year alleged of being involved in spot-fixing during a Pro-40 clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 CCC in the 2009 season and the Essex police held a three-month long investigation into the scandal.
Later, the police charged only Westfield and no allegations were proven against Kaneria. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board stressed that though the leg-spinner had not been proven guilty, the police had also not completed the probe into the case, and the
trial was still going on.
Sources in the board have claimed that there has been growing pressure on the selectors to consider the leg-spinner for the Test matches to be played in 2011. But the PCB is not clearing his name for selection.
The board official said that the PCB has sent several reminders to Kaneria, but he refused to provide them with the statement and the Board maintain that the leg-spinner would not be cleared for selection unless he provided a copy of the statement.
Kaneria also failed to get his central contract revised by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
