Pakistan Cricket Board still undecided on the venue for the home series against Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has still not finalized the venue for the home series against Sri Lanka in October.
However, due to the security concerns in the country, Sri Lanka has decided not to play in Pakistan, because of which the PCB is left with no option but to arrange the tournament at a neutral venue.
According to sources, the tournament will consist of five-one day internationals, a Twenty20 and three-Test matches.
Insiders have revealed that the PCB is currently focussing on assessing venues in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
However, it has been learned that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is extremely interested in hosting the event and for which it is believed that the ECB and PCB are also in talks.
This was also confirmed by a source in the ECB who on the condition of anonymity said, “I can confirm that communication has been going in the right direction but the deal is yet to be finalized. ECB is very optimistic that Pakistan will be playing in the
UAE.”
In November last year, PCB used the newly built cricket facilities in the UAE for a One Day and Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and due a vast majority of expatriates in that part of the world, Pakistan usually received immense support, due to which holding
a series in the Gulf state will also be beneficial for the PCB from the commercial point of view.
Talking on the commercial aspect of a Pakistan series in the UAE, Mohammad Asif, a marketing agent from the UAE said, “We admit Pakistan cricket is a sellable brand and we are http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 to market it. Pakistan has a very great prospect in the UAE as the country
has a healthy and rich cricket following.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan, this year was hoping to revive international cricket after the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009. Since the attacks, foreign teams have avoided Pakistan, because of which the country has been left with no other
option but to play home events at neutral locations.
However, in late May, the Afghan cricket team toured Pakistan to play Pakistan A in a one-day series, which the hosts whitewashed. The series still failed to gain enough international exposure to convince teams from other countries to resume playing in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
