Pakistan Cricket Board to get World Cup compensation – Cricket News Update
According to reliable sources the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to receive USD 16 million as its share of earnings from the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, 2011 which was held in March of this year.
Sources have revealed that the amount was decided mutually by the ICC and PCB which showed that the world body understood Pakistan’s position and was willing to compensate the country for missing out on the opportunity of hosting the mega event.
Speaking on the matter, a source on the condition of anonymity said, “The total package includes hosting fees and other benefits. The PCB has also got compensation for the in-stadia sponsorship rights, hospitality box earnings and ticket revenues that it
had lost out on because of the shifting of the matches."
The same source revealed that an amount of USD 10.5 million was released by the ICC to the PCB just after the conclusion of the mega event which was jointly hosted by India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
The event was originally scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan as well, however, because of the worsening security situation in the country which included a failed terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team touring Pakistan in 2009, convinced the ICC to
scrap Pakistan from the list of host countries.
Since the terrorist attacks on the Lankans, Pakistan has failed to convince foreign teams to tour the country and because of this fact it was not possible for the ICC to hold the mega event.
Pakistan was to host 14 matches of the World Cup which were later allotted to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Host countries had the luxury of playing group matches on their home soil; however, Pakistan had to travel to Sri Lanka to play their group matches
where the Men in Green found good support among the cricket fans.
The PCB has been facing an economic crunch because of the prolonged absence of international cricket and the cash by the ICC has come just at the right time.
