Pakistan Cricket Board to implement “lesser governmental interference” bill before endorsement by the ICC – Cricket News Update
It is has been revealed by sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the country’s cricket governing body had already introduced a clause in the newly proposed constitution to end political interference in the affairs of the cricket board.
The move is believed to have been taken well before the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision to make it mandatory for member boards to eliminate governmental interference in the functioning of the boards.
According to a source, it was wrong to suggest that the PCB was not aware of the ICC move before hand and was taken aback by the announcement.
On the condition of anonymity, a source revealed, “The reason the new constitution has still not been approved by the government ministries is because it has a clause that the board Chairman will be elected in future instead of being nominated as is the
present practice."
According to the same source, the government of Pakistan is not http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the inclusion of this clause, because of which the new constitution has still not been approved by the concerned government departments.
It was also revealed that the legal notice sent by the PCB to the ICC in this regard was also because of pressure from the government to challenge the decision of the global cricketing body.
According to the current law of the PCB, the chairman of the board is directly nominated by the patron-in-chief, who is the president of Pakistan. The reigning Chairman of the PCB, Ijaz Butt, who was named by President Asif Ali Zardari, is also of the opinion
that the chairman should be elected properly instead of being named by the patron.
However, PCB’s next course of action is uncertain. The same source, speaking on the matter said, “The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mal-Loye-c1879 of the board, Ijaz Butt and general body members are also in favour of having all elected people in the board, Even now it is not clear what line
of action the board will adopt after the ICC ruling. Things will be clear when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 returns home after a month.”
After the decision by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625, there was a general impression in the cricketing world that PCB would be the most affected board, since many believe it’s the most politically influenced.
A recent example in this regard is the case between former One Day skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, convincing Afridi to appear before PCB’s disciplinary committee,
after which he was returned his No Objection Certificates (NOC), required to play county cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
