Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Sami will be investigated for fighting with a fellow teammate while under the influence of alcohol in a hotel in Rawalpindi.
According to reports, Sami’s domestic side, “Karachi Blues” are staying in a hotel in Rawalpindi to play their match in the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy. Sami’s brawl became public when the President of the Karachi City Cricket
Association (KCCA) Siraj Bukhari demanded a full report on the incident from the touring management of Karachi Blues.
Bukhari said, “We have been told that Sami fought with a teammate and damaged hotel property while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, we don’t know the proper details of the incident and we will only decide on action
after getting both sides of the story.”
According to reports, the hotel management has also demanded compensation from the visiting team because the pacer allegedly damaged their furniture during the brawl.
However, Sami totally denied the claims of him being drunk and out of control. He said,
“I had a misunderstanding with a fellow player but it is not true I was drunk.”
The 29-year-old Karachi born pacer has played 34 Test matches for his country, making his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Finally, in May 2010, he
was given an opportunity to represent his country in a T20 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
The pacer has been in and out of the national squad owing to injury and form issues. With the discovery of Pakistan’s charismatic young pace attack sensation Mohammad Amir, it was almost considered impossible for Sami to make his
place back in the national side. Nevertheless, with the suspension of Amir on suspicions of spot fixing, the doors of opportunity opened once again for Sami to prove his mettle while wearing green. He was picked in the squad for the UAE tour against South
Africa this year.
Unfortunately, he failed to give an impressive performance against the Proteas. Sami needs to realize that he is now a senior player and playing for his domestic or national side requires some show of character and maturity. As
a senior bowler for Karachi Blues, the 29-year-old needs to control his temper and avoid being part of any controversies.
