Pakistan Cricket – Life after Waqar Younis – Opinion
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is once again faced with a serious problem of appointing a new head coach for the national team since the former coach Waqar Younis relinquished his post after Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 where the Men in Green left the hosts in ruins after making a clean sweep in the Test, T20 and one-day series.
However, now the real test for the country’s board has begun as they need to appoint a capable coach for the national team and so far the board has shown little progress in this direction as Pakistan will be facing the mighty Sri Lankans in the United Arab Emirates in a month’s time and still a coach has not been named.
It will be extremely difficult for the new coach to get things running before the series against the Lankans with such a short time for making preparations.
The lingering by the board in this direction is beyond comprehension as the appointment of a new coach should have been the top priority of the board.
Meanwhile, talking about http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 was sacked.
Waqar had to restructure the whole national side which included introducing young players in the national team alongside the experienced players.
Then it was during his coaching stint when Pakistan cricket was caught in one of the sport’s most damaging controversy when three main players of the team namely http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
This scandal damaged Pakistan cricket to a great extent which saw the three players banned from the sport for a minimum of five years.
This fiasco caused Pakistan to look for replacements just before the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
However, it was the supreme coaching techniques by Waqar and excellent leadership on the field by skipper Shahid Afridi that earned Pakistan a place in the semi-final of the tournament against their arch nemesis India.
Pakistan lost the match, nonetheless, regained respect in the eyes of many by defying the odds as the team was completely written-off by many before the tournament and left everyone amazed after giving a sensational performance in the absence of strike bowlers Amir and Asif.
During the tournament Pakistan beat teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 which proved their superiority against their opponents.
Waqar’s reign did not end after the world cup and he then took the national team to the Caribbean where the side once again won against the hosts in the five-match one-day series. However, on return to Pakistan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 charged Waqar led team management of running things with an iron fist which created differences with the skipper over the team selection.
However, Waqar refrained from giving any statements on this subject and insisted that all was well in the Pakistan camp.
However, the PCB decided to sack Afridi as the coach of the team and replaced the all-rounder with middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972.
Pakistan then beat the Irish in a tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 and later went to Zimbabwe. With Afridi out of the way things were supposed to settle down, however, Waqar made a shocking revelation of resigning from the job after the Zimbabwe tour because of health issues.
Although, there were more controversies during his tenure, but one should not forget that even with so much going around Waqar kept the team on a winning track which is a testament to his exuberant coaching tenure. Fitting in Waqar’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Peter-Hewitt-c66001 will surely be a difficult job for the upcoming coach.
