Pakistan’s discarded pacer Mohammad Sami has been chosen by the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) to lead the Karachi Dolphins in the upcoming Super Eight T20 Tournament in place of all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. The tournament is set to feature top teams
in Pakistan’s domestic circuit and will be played in Faisalabad.
Afridi, who is fighting a legal battle with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after his central contract was suspended and None Objection Certificate (NOC) revoked, is most likely going to miss the home event due to which it was imperative for the KCCA to
name a new captain as they had previously named the under fire all-rounder for the spot.
Speaking on the matter, Sirajul Islam Bukhari, the president of the KCCA said, “We’ve made up our mind. Sami is an experienced player and will be the best choice if Afridi doesn’t get the permission. We are still waiting for PCB’s reply but we have to keep
our options open.”
Meanwhile there are rumours that even if Afridi wins his legal escapade against the PCB, he will still opt to play the Friends Life T20 tournament in England as he was signed by Hamshire for this season.
It was also revealed by the KCCA authorities that Afridi’s replacement may be named in the coming days and according to insiders the 35-year old spinner Haris Ayaz is a strong candidate for the place in the team in the absence of the hard hitting Afridi.
The KCCA has made it clear, that they will not violate any orders coming from the PCB in this regard and if the PCB decides to bar the controversial 31-year old all-rounder from the tournament then they will not resist the move.
Meanwhile talking on this matter a source in the PCB said, “We haven’t decided on the issue yet and we’re looking at the pros and cons of his participation. We’ll send our reply to the KCCA in a day or two.”
On the other hand, Sami who has not played for Pakistan since November of 2010 is hoping to lead his side to victory. With 365 wickets in first class cricket, Sami is surely the best replacement for Afridi as the captain of the Dolphins as he has immense
experience of playing domestic cricket.
