In a latest development in the spot-fixing case against Pakistan’s trio of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed it has been revealed that the 19-year-old Amir has confessed to his crimes by admitting that he was
involved in spot-fixing during Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the summer of 2010.
However, experts predict that Amir’s latest confession will have little effect on the criminal proceedings against the accused individuals who have already been found guilty in a hearing conducted by International Cricket Council’s (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Anti-Corruption
Unit. The hearing was held in early 2011 at Doha, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
The confession has come after Amir had earlier refused all charges which were levelled against him and his fellow conspirators and insisted that he was innocent of all charges.
After finding the players guilty the ICC banned Butt for 10, Asif for seven and Amir for five years from taking part in any cricketing event sanctioned by the ICC or its affiliate bodies.
Now, the players are facing criminal charges in a London Court for defrauding bookies in England by altering the game deliberately after taking bribes.
The news was first revealed by the now defunct English Tabloid “News of the World” which provided photographic and video evidence showing Mazhar Majeed taking money from an undercover journalist to bribe the three players in the Test against England at Lord’s.
In the video, Majeed gave assurances that Amir and Asif would bowl no-balls during the match and that the first over would be bowled by Amir.
The bowlers did bowl deliberate no-balls in the overs that were identified by Majeed and after this the tabloid contacted the local law enforcement agencies and provided them with the evidence.
Immediately a police raid was conducted on the hotel where the Pakistan team was staying and while searching the rooms of the trio foreign currency was confiscated along with mobile phones.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) then barred the players from taking part in the remainder of the tournament while the ICC also imposed a temporary ban on them until the end of a formal investigation.
