Pakistan Cricket Round Up: Green’s first victory since spot-fixing mess, Scotland Yard submit initial enquiry report to CPS, Ehsan Mani’s outburst against PCB criticized, Wasim and Moin to tour Dubai
And here comes Pakistan’s first victory since the day it had been embroiled in the spot-fixing mess. The Oval ground again embraced the visitors warmly as the Pakistan side won its third ODI against England at its lush green outfields after also having won
the 3rd Test there last month. But let’s not uncross our figures yet as the match fixing prospects are once again in the air regarding yesterday’s thrilling Oval fixture.
It was the reverse-swing specialist, Umar Gul, who bagged his side this morale-boosting victory single-handedly. Umar scythed through the England team’s lower order to finish with his career-best 6 for 42 from a quota of 10 overs.
After setting a competitive yet gettable target of 242 runs, the only chance that the visitors had to win the match was to bowl out England’s whole team. This chance was duly availed by the bowling department of Pakistan being led by the Yorker specialist,
Umar Gul.
England were only 41 runs away from the target with still five wickets intact while 12 overs to spare before the promising Gul scythed through their batting line up sending Morgan, Bresnan and Broad back to the pavilion in two consecutive overs leaving the
hosts reeling at 207 for 8. Last two wickets were shared by Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and Abdul Razzaq as the Pakistan side ended with a 23 run victory.
Pakistan’s Coach, Waqar Younis later praised Umar Gul’s performance and said that such a victory was somewhat essential for the side as they have entered the final week of their three months long England tour that has been full of controversies.
"After the two losses, we really needed something like this," said Waqar. "The series is still alive, and this gives us the incentive that we can come back and maybe win the series now. It's been a really tough tour on the field and off it, so we're pretty
pleased to be back in this one-day series, but there's still plenty of work to be done."
Victory for Pakistan came on the same day as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard submitted its initial enquiry report on the spot-fixing conspiracy to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Now, it seems as the CPS would further carry on the proceedings.
Meanwhile, Former Pakistan leg-spinner, Abdul Qadir, has slammed the International Cricket Council on its so-called failure to curb corruption in the game. Qadir lashed out at the Anticorruption and Security Unit of ICC for not bringing up any evidence of
the wrongdoings that the Pakistan trio was allegedly involved in. He said that the Unit follows just the media reports and it has never conducted any investigations at its own findings. “I don’t remember the unit pointing out wrongdoing and has not solved
any case either,” said the veteran Test cricketer.
Also, Ehsan Mani’s outburst against Pakistan Cricket Board has made the former Pakistani cricketers resentful. Mani, the former ICC chief had earlier blamed PCB for not educating its players on how to avoid bookies.
The former legendary pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292, in his comments, said that he was really disappointed by Mani’s statement. He maintained that although, Mani was a Pakistani by origin but he has never played for Pakistan even once so he does not know how to maintain
the prestige of the board. Another former great, Sarfaraz Nawaz advised Mani to keep his expert judgement with himself as such statements serve no purpose except ridiculing the ongoing investigations.
Last but not the least, Wasim Akram and Moin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 would participate in the Dubai Super Sixes Corporate Cricket League that kicks off at Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium
from 1st October 2010.
