Pakistan Cricket - Who will captain the Green Shirts next?
Pakistan cricket team has always been a major force in international cricket and has a lot of fan following all around the world because of the different flavor it brings to the gentlemen’s sport.
Most of the cricket analysts in the world have no doubt in their mind that Pakistan is the most fertile land when it comes to producing cricketers of the highest quality. The domestic cricket structure of the country has been criticized on a number of occasions
but still the Green Shirts continue to throw extremely talented cricketers at the world stage.
However, the most unfortunate thing about cricket in Pakistan is that it has always been surrounded by controversies. Player-power has always been associated with the Green Shirts.
One of the major problems of Pakistan cricket over the years has been captaincy. The greed of power has led to a lack of unity in the Pakistan team, which negatively affected its performance. However, the situation has been different since the last year
and a half, as Misbah ul Haq has led the team in a brilliant manner and a sense of harmony within the team has been quite visible.
However, Misbah’s age is a hurdle for him to lead the country for a longer period of time and PCB is desperately looking for someone who can take care of the national team, once Misbah decides to call it a day.
At a time when there are talks of a young captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325, has announced that he is ready to lead his country once again and said that he will give it a thought if Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offers him the
national side's captaincy.
Younis has led the Green Shirts in the past as well, but faced differences with PCB and some senior players. Pakistan won the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 under his leadership, but the seasoned batsman resigned from the post after the ICC Champions Trophy
2009, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
In the past, Younis wanted complete authority as captain, but PCB had some reservations. On top of that, there were rumours that the senior players are not happy to play under his captaincy. As a result, Younis announced that he will not lead Pakistan again
in future.
In his recent interview for Express Tribune, Younis expressed that leading the country in international cricket is an honour and now he is mentally prepared once again to do the job for Pakistan. "I will definitely consider any such offer from the PCB,"
said Younis.
Younis has more than six thousand runs in both, the Test format as well as One Day International cricket. The right-handed batsman is considered amongst the best Test players Pakistan has produced in the last two decades.
There have been some rumours lately that PCB may replace Misbah by another former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088. The latter has age on his side, and if he can regain his form with the bat, he can surely serve the country for a long period of time.
There has been a sense of stability in the Pakistan team since the last 18 months, and let us hope that the players do not get carried away in the race for leadership. A good Pakistan team is brilliant for international cricket and the players must put their
country ahead of their own interests.
