The former captain of Pakistan, Younus Khan is no longer interested in leading the team once again as has been learned from reliable sources when it was revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had contacted the 33-year-old middle-order batsman to
take the realms of the 50-over squad to reduce pressure on Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
However, the batsman refused the opportunity to captain the side and clarified that he wanted to concentrate on his batting due to which leading the team was not an option for him.
Speaking on the matter, an inside source from the PCB on the condition of anonymity said, “Younus was asked to become limited-overs captain but he refused the offer straightway, He said he just wanted to focus on his batting and was not ready to take captaincy
as his wish was to stay away from controversies.”
“We respect his feelings and won’t be forcing him to take the job. The board has now decided to rely on Misbah with the hope that he will perform and stay fit for a longer period. At least, he will be captaining the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in
all formats,” the source further revealed.
Younus, who led the team to their first championship in T20 in 2009, relinquished from his captaincy the same year after losing support from his teammates. He was then sidelined by PCB’s selection committee before being recalled during Pakistan’s tour of
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
In the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, making him an integral part of the team.
The need for the PCB to approach the batsman regarding a possible position as the captain is due to the fact that appointing Misbah as captain of the one-day squad as a replacement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has received severe criticism.
Afridi, who developed estranged relationship with the team management during the series tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 was deposed by the PCB as the captain. Misbah was picked as his immediate replacement, however, Afridi seeing this as an insult retired from international
cricket.
Misbah is believed to be an interim one-day captain who will be replaced in the coming months.
