Pakistan Cricketers face yet another controversy!! What should ICC have done?
Yet another controversy against Pakistan surfaced on Friday with allegations of match fixing but this time by a different British tabloid. The fresh wave of allegations against Pakistan cricket team regarding their Oval win came as a surprise for many cricket
fans around the world. While it is a known fact that freedom has certain limits, British tabloids appear to have crossed all. The gut feeling and hard work exhibited by Pakistan during the 3rd ODI against England certainly defies any misappropriation.
The team led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 seems to have played with good intention while proving their hard work by winning.
Investigations against the three accused players have yet not been finalized but still the tabloid presented another scam. It appears as if there must be a limit to defamation. Either concrete evidence should be brought forward or the investigation should
be carried out without its projection on the media. What is the validity of these allegations? On what basis the tabloids are conducting what looks to be a defamation campaign? Now, it’s high time that ICC reconsider its decision of entertaining mere news
articles of such tabloids, which usually base their stories on gossip and fabrication. The International Cricket Council must first wait for the results of the earlier investigations and then proceed with the fresh ones.
Still, ICC has decided to launch an investigation in to the new accusations published by ‘The Sun’, which had alleged in a story that bookies were aware of Pakistan innings’ pattern much before the 3rd ODI started. ICC Chief Executive, Haroon
Lorgat told the reporters that the world body would fulfill its duty to investigate the matter in detail. He also expressed his gratitude to the tabloid for exposing the new scam. He stressed that ICC will leave no stone unturned to reveal the real facts.
He reiterated ICC’s zero tolerance against malpractices in the game and also vowed to maintain its sanctity by severely punishing the culprits.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, while strictly criticizing the article, said that there is no truth
in it. On the other hand, the tabloid claimed appreciation for its report by the ICC, revealing that ICC is also probing the alleged involvement of same cartel in the previous Pak-Aus Test Match scam. The cartel was alleged to have paid 700,000 pounds in favor
of the Pakistan players.
Moreover, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard has handed over the initial inquiry report to the Crown Prosecution service and now, the ball is in CPS’s court to frame charges against the three accused Pakistan players. Similarly, Metropolitan Police Service has also given an
initial file of proof to CPS. All these developments came a day after ICC President, Sharad Pawar, demanded an early disposal of the on-going investigations. PCB’s legal advisor, Tafazzul Rizvi, has expressed ignorance regarding any evidence provided by the
Scotland Yard saying that SY hasn’t shared any information with the PCB on the issue.
It is now being strongly felt that all these controversies must reach some final end soon so that the sanctity of the game could be restored. Also, PCB must prepare itself to take some severe action after the inquiry report is finalized. This action must
involve severe punishments to the guilty ones. But, it must also take stern legal action against the tabloids in case their allegations are proven to be baseless.
