Pakistan Domestic: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Habib-Bank-Limited-c788 dominate first day
Pakistan’s first-ever day-night first class match started at the National Stadium in Karachi on Thursday, 13 January, 2011.
The match- final of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Division One- was played between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-International-Airlines-c831 and Habib Bank Limited.
The toss was won by HBL and they decided to bowl first to test the nature of the orange ball being used in the match. The decision proved to be a good one for the team as PIA batsmen struggled to get runs.
PIA lost three quick wickets as the openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, failed to trouble the scorers and was dismissed for a duck.
Three wickets had fallen for just 53 runs when former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik joined PIA’s captain Kamran Sajid at the crease. The pair looked solid and compiled a 63-run partnership for the team.
Malik failed to capitalise on the start he got and was dismissed for 39. None of the middle-order batsmen could score big and kept losing wickets regularly. Anwar Ali stayed at the crease for a while with his captain Kamran. Both scored a 53-run partnership
to take their team past 200 runs.
Kamran Sajid missed out on his century and was dismissed after a brilliant knock of 90 runs. His innings took the team to a total of 228 runs and saved them from a complete disaster.
The fast bowlers were impressive in the match as they got the ball to bounce and seam from the wicket. Test discard, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 was the pick of the bowlers as he took four wickets while Fahad Masood, Kamran Hussain and Sarmad Anwar took two each.
All-rounder Kamran Hussain opened the innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shan-Masood-c89637 for HBL. Kamran was dismissed after scoring just four runs as he was brilliantly caught in the slips by Faisal Iqbal.
Imran Farhat walked out to see off the remaining overs and he remained unbeaten until close of first day’s play with Shan. Anwar Ali took the only wicket for PIA.
The second day of the match will continue on Friday.
