Pakistan Endeavouring to Resume International Cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has increased its efforts in trying to bring back international cricket to the country which has been ravaged by terror attacks since 9/11, 2001.
According to reports the PCB has sought assurance regarding the security of visiting international teams from the interior ministry of Pakistan on Thursday.
Talking on the matter, the Chairman of the PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 said, “We have asked the interior ministry to give us assurances on security so that we can revive international cricket in Pakistan." Butt gave these remarks after having an in-depth discussion with
the interior minister Rehman Malik.
Butt ensured that the visiting Afghan team will be the provided with top notch security in order to conduct a smooth series. Admitting that the series is not big enough, the PCB officials believe it will be a small step towards the resumption of international
cricket in the country.
Butt also revealed the prospects of arch rivals India touring Pakistan and according to the PCB chairman, the cricket boards of the two countries are seriously considering to hold a bilateral series. "We are trying our best to arrange a series with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750
either in December this year or early next year," he said.
India refused to hold any bilateral series with neighbouring Pakistan after the 2008 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 denies all charges and has offered a joint investigation to bring the
perpetrators to justice.
On the other hand, Pakistan has been a no go area for foreign team since 2009, when the touring Sri Lankan team were ambushed in a failed terrorist attempt while they were on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore to play against the hosts.
The attack claimed the lives of eight Pakistan nationals and injured seven Sri Lankans. The series was immediately called off and the Lankan team flew back. After this debacle the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) was forced to take away the right to host
the ICC world cup 2011 from Pakistan which was supposed to be jointly played in India, Pakistan, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and Sri Lanka.
Since 2009, Pakistan has been left with no option but to play home events in a third country, so far the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will also be used
as a neutral venue by the PCB.
