Pakistan Golf Federation commends Sindh Golf Association for starting a sponsorship program
Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) commended Sindh Golf Association (SGA) for promoting local talent on the international front. The SGA announced sponsorship for top golfers to play on the Asian Tour.
In a press conference held in Karachi on Monday, the Secretary of Pakistan Golf Federation Taimur Hasan spoke about the new policies introduced by the tour to promote sport in the region. He said that he was pleased over the announcement
made by Sindh Golf Association regarding sponsoring players on the Asian Tour.
He said that Pakistan was blessed with the most talented sportsmen in the region, but they did not have the resources to compete on international tours, owing to the lack of monetary backing. However, with the implementation of the
sponsorship program, the professionals would get an opportunity to compete with other foreign players.
Hasan said while speaking to reporters, “This announcement of SGA is very encouraging for professional golfers of Pakistan. This is a good gesture on the part of SGA and its Senior Vice President Asad I.A.Khan which will boost the
game in the country.”
The secretary of PGF also thanked the sponsors of Byco Sindh Open Golf Championship (ASCC and Byco Petroleum) for promoting the tournament. Hasan, who took part in the tournament as a player, said that two parties worked really hard
to give the event a prolific shape. Byco Sindh Open Golf Championship took place last week at the majestic course of Arabian Sea Country Club.
Hasan denied the allegation leveled against him that he was against the establishment of Professional Golf Association of Pakistan. Earlier, a rumour was rife that Pakistan Golf Federation was thinking of setting up a professional
tour for the golfers in the area, but Hasan rejected the notion calling it unfeasible.
However, Hasan said that he was not against the idea of formulating a professional tour for Pakistan. Instead, he stated that a fact-finding committee was formed during the annual meeting of PGF Executive Committee, which was given
the responsibility of preparing a feasibility report.
He added, “This thing was discussed during the PGF Executive Committee meeting and a fact finding committee to look into the matter had been formed. This fact find committee would look into the matter and report the matter to PGF
President General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani.”
With this sponsorship deal, Pakistan is all set to enter a new era in golf.
