Pakistan Hockey Federation Secretary Asif Bajwa optimistic for final spot in Asian Champions Trophy
Pakistan’s Hockey team is currently playing in the first edition of the Asian Champions Trophy ongoing in Ordos, China where they climbed to the top position after three victories and one defeat. The performance by the Greenshirts not only boosted the morale
of players but also made the officials happy.
Asif Bajwa, the Secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) expressed satisfaction over the victory against South Korea. He further stated the main objective of the tournament was to give the youngsters some much needed international experience. He
also expressed contentment over the situation saying that the fresh blood is showing an impressive performance thus far.
The Secretary continued that the Federation wanted to prepare these players for the mega assignments. He said, “Pakistan Hockey Federation is providing maximum chance to young players to show their skills and to prepare them for mega event including 2012
Olympics. During their learning period, if these players perform in big matches, then it will be a big achievement of them.”
Bajwa maintained that the PHF was completely satisfied with the performance of the youngsters and at the same time anticipated that the Greenshirts will carry on their good performances in the upcoming fixture against India in the tournament. It is vital
to mention here that the match between two neighbouring countries will decide the fate of one of the two finalist teams.
He added that the triumph against Korea increased the courage of the Greenshirts and they will likely play in the title-claiming match. He said, “The victory against Korea boosted morale of the team and I hope they will also perform well against India and
qualify for the final.”
In his view, the match against South Korea was not an easy task, as the young players displayed an outstanding game and won the game 3-2. The past glory will not be far away from the side if they carried out similar performances, he added.
The PHF Secretary expressed best wishes for the Greenshirts and anticipated that they will play against India with full enthusiasm in order to win a place in the title-claiming match.
