Pakistan Hockey Federation awards cash prizes to the winners of the Tri-Nation tournament
In an admirable move, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) awarded cash prizes to the players and the officials of the national team that clinched the title of the Three-Nation tournament, held from October 26 to November 3, in Perth, Australia.
The Green-shirts defeated the world’s number-one team, Australia, in the finals of the tournament, lifting the title at the latter’s home-soil.
Besides Pakistan and Australia, India was the third team contesting the tournament. However, it did not manage to win even a single game.
PHF President, Qasim Zia, praised the performance of the Green-shirts in the tournament against the top teams. He asserted that the federation will announce more rewards if the squad shows similar games in the upcoming events.
The federation announced Rs 100, 000 each for the officials and players of the triumphant squad.
PHF Secretary, Asif Bajwa, also spoke with the media on the occasion, applauding the efforts of the federation in boosting the morale of the players.
He was of the opinion that the cash prizes will assist in achieving fruitful outcomes in the future tournaments. The federation has always focused on providing facilities to the players and has awarded good incentives on many occasions, he added.
He maintained, “The PHF always rewarded the top performers and will continue if these players will perform well in the upcoming event, they will be given more lucrative incentives for their encouragement and they will be honoured”.
The PHF Secretary stated that the national line-up was riding on self-confidence after clinching the tournament and will not pushover in the future assignments.
He commented, “Let's be realistic - we have defeated Australia on their home soil and have won the three-nation event. Our next target is to put in our best efforts for ensuring a better show in the upcoming Champions Trophy and we are really working on
it”.
Bajwa informed that the Green-shirts are currently preparing for the Champions Trophy, set to be played from December 3 to 11, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Pakistan will play two friendly games against Germany and the Netherlands prior to the mega event, he added.
Furthermore, the PHF is also working to host bilateral hockey series against neighbouring countries, China and India. Without any doubt, the preparatory games will help the Green-shirts to overcome their weak areas.
