Pakistan Hockey Federation looking for perfect team – Hockey Update
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is now planning to hold a National Coaching Clinic, which is to be held at the Faisalabad Hockey Stadium from February 5-10, 2011.
This initiative comes under the PHF development programme, in conjunction with the 58th National Hockey Championship (NHC) presently taking place in the same venue.
The main goal of this clinic is to give coaches across the country new techniques that they can implement on their level to improve the overall performance of their teams. The clinic will be under the guidance of the Pakistan hockey team Head Coach Michel
Heuvel.
The nominees willing to attend this coaching clinic include K.M. Junaid, Col Nadeem Bhatti, Rahim Khan, Mujahid Afzal, Ahmed Alam, Rizwan Muneer Bhutta, Mohammad Irfan, Anjum Saeed, Mohammad Shahbaz Junior, Ajmal Khan Lodhi, Jan Muhammad, Shahid Ali Khan,
Danish Kaleem, Mohammad Akhlaq, Malik M. Shafqat, Muhammad Usman, Khawar Javaid, Rana Zaheer Babar, Muhaamad Ali, Sabir Ali, Mohammad Arshad, Mohammad Riasat and one PHF Women’s wing nominee.
Some of the U19 team members, after their busy National Hockey Championship schedule, shall be joining many other new teams at the Bahawalpur Hockey Stadium from February 26 for the National U19 Junior Hockey Championship.
A total of 22 teams shall be participating in the U19 junior Championship, namely Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Navy, KESC, Police, SSGC, Punjab, FATA, Port Qasim, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, NBP, Army, Pakistan Boards, Railways, PTV, PAF, Pakistan Steel Mills,
WAPDA, Customs, PIA and HBL.
The event has been organised by the PHF that is still aiming towards identifying new talent. This event is of much importance to widen the selection base for a strong and competitive team for the Asia Cup. Such a National team is to be formed that can meet
the expectations in the third Men’s Asia Cup 2011, which is to be held later this year. More importantly, these events will provide PHF with some measure to gauge how well the national team is ready for the upcoming 2012 Olympics.
The PHF is working hard with Heuvel to identify the right players for the national team as the 2012 London Olympics are not far away and it is crucial that the team is finalised with the most skilled players for the competition.
