Pakistan Hockey Federation satisfied with the brainstorming session with former Olympians
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) looks quite satisfied about the brainstorming session with the former Olympians that it summoned to devise a unanimous strategy for improving the level of the national game in the country.
A large number of the former Olympians and national heroes came up with unique ideas and suggestions for the melioration of hockey in Pakistan.
They all got together on the invitation of the federation that sought their help in preparing the national team for the 2012 London Olympics.
The meeting held with the PHF President, Qasim Zia, in the chair also extended its discussion from past performances to future strategies.
As many as 35 out of total 44 invited former hockey pros partook in the meeting, giving their recommendations to the federation.
A few of the great names including Samiullah, Islahuddin Siddiqui, Shahbaz Senior and Shahnaz Sheikh did not attend the session.
In an odd move, Qasim Zia stated that he will endeavour to convince the absent members. He underlined, “I will personally visit them and will ask them to join us in the next session”.
Following the meeting, PHF Secretary, Asif Bajwa, briefed the media persons saying that it was a useful session that reviewed the entire scenario of the game in the country.
He observed, “We extended written invitation to former players to get their input on the working of the PHF and evaluate the performance of the Pakistan senior and junior teams in recent years”.
It looks a fruitful attempt by the federation, taking the former national greats onboard on a mutual consensus to serve the national game.
The participants unanimously advocated the revival of the national sport in the academic institutions in order to expand it at the grass-root level.
A handful of speakers also criticised the recent performances of the senior and junior squads, however, they at the same time praised the efforts of the federation in overcoming the grey areas.
The former Olympians believe that the reins of the national sport are in safe hands, which will surely strive for the revival of the game to its past glory.
In all, the house applauded the efforts of the federation in launching hockey academies across the country. The participants also urged the PHF to introduce special diet plans for the youngsters training in the institutions.
Some of the renowned names who participated in the meeting are: Rana Mujahid, Tauqir Dar, Khawaja Zakauddin, Ch Akhtar Rasool, Ahmad Alam, Anjum Saeed, Hassan Sardar and Hanif Khan.
