Pakistan Hockey Federation to introduce new technology for the team’s development
Pakistan men’s national hockey team recently faced a disappointing failure in Netherlands' Four-Nations tournament that concluded on July 2, at the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam.
The team ended last on the point's table with no wins, one draw against England at 2-2, two defeats against Germany and Netherlands at 2-1 and 4-0, respectively.
Addressing this issue, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials came up with the decision to make use of the state-of-the-art technology for the team’s development, keeping in view the mega sports gala ahead, 2012 London Olympic
Games, where world’s top most teams will face-off each other.
This decision was revealed by the PHF Secretary General, Mohammad Asif Bajwa, when he spoke to media yesterday, on July 5, “We have decided to buy new devises specifically made to help players increase their speed. We will make it
sure that our players have access to any kind of technology that is being used by other teams so that they prepare well for the Olympic Games. We are willing to spend on anything that can help boost our Olympic preparations.”
According to him, all the other teams have already been introduced to these devices for their development in terms of speed and stamina building. He admitted the fact that the national teams needs to improve their speed to match up
with the other hockey powers.
Bajwa stated that with the improvement in speed, the Greenshirts will be able to beat the top nations and raise their chances to cllinch an Olympic medal.
This decision was taken after the expert advises given by the former Olympians and players at home, who sorted that the actual weakness in the team was their speed. Moreover, the team’s chief coach, Michel Van Den Heuvel has also been
asked by the federation for suggestions regarding the team’s betterment.
In the Europe tour, two back-to-back Four-Nation tournaments took place in which two totally opposite outcomes came from the team. In Ireland, Pakistan won the title, whereas it stood last in the Four-Nations that was held in Holland.
