Pakistan National Games: Pak-Army, WAPDA, Punjab move for next round
In the ongoing 31st national games of Pakistan, the hockey teams of Pakistan Army, WAPDA and Punjab have marked their victories in the first round against rival teams and moved ahead to the next phase of the event. The three brilliant squads of
Pak-army, WAPDA and Punjab overpowered Pak-Navy, PAF (Pakistan Air Force) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively at the Abbottabad Hockey Stadium, situated 150 KM North of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
Pakistan Army in a crucial match against Pakistan Navy has succeeded to acquire a berth in the next round by defeating opponents with 2-1.  Both squads displayed a magnificent game at the start of the match; however it was Pak-army which marked first goal
of the competition.
Afzal, the forward player of Pak-army scored first goal in the 38th minute of the match. More aggressive game was started in the second-half as one team wanted to level the score while the other-one wanted to sustain the lead.
Kashif of Pak-Navy, however, tied it up at 1-1 by marking a goal from the field.  The match became more interesting as the squads wanted to mark the winning hit. Muhammad Imran of Pak-army converted a penalty corner and made the victory possible for his
team in the last minutes of the game.
 In the second game, the hat-trick of legendary drag-flicker, Sohail Abbas helped WAPDA to confirm its berth in the second round. WAPDA defeated PAF by 4-2 after a tough competition. Sohail Abbas successfully scored three goals on penalty corners and put
PAF under intense pressure. The fourth goal from the WAPDA side was marked by Ahmad Rashid.
From the opponent side, Asad and Said Shah scored two goals, which could not save the team from humiliating defeat.
In the third competition, the outstanding squad of Punjab having international players clinched a victory and confirmed its berth in the second phase. Punjab thrashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 5-1 with the hat-trick of Tauseeq Haider.
The game was opened with the first goal of Tauseeq Haider on short corner at the13th minute of the match, which increased the pressure on the rival team. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carried out several attacks but of no avail.
Tauseeq Haider converted a pair of penalty corners in the 17th and the 23rd minutes, which really changed the scenario of the game. Later on, Abdul Qadir and Arsalan further increased the score by marking two more goals in the 61st
and the 63rd minutes of the game. The solitary goal from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was scored by Afsar, which was really futile for the team.
