The Men in Green have managed to restrict the hosts to a total of 220 runs in the 2nd One Day International at the Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on 25 April, 2011.
Winning the toss, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 decided to bowl first on the moist pitch, confident of his side’s bowling and batting capabilities.
The Windies were off to a steady start as openers Lendl Simmons and Devon Smith took the charge. After five overs the hosts had scored 23 runs at a run-rate of 4.60 without losing any wickets.
The sixth over, however, saw Pakistani spinner Mohammad Hafeez dismiss Devon Smith leg-before wicket (lbw) on 16 runs.
Darren Bravo was the next man in, together Bravo and Simmons faced the brunt of the Pakistani attack. However, the two managed to hold on to their wickets and kept the run-rate floating around 5 per over.
Simmons was the main run scorer while Bravo was intent upon preserving wickets. Bravo’s stand was short lived though, the 12th over saw Pakistan’s ace spinner Saeed Ajmal strike against the Windies as he sent Bravo packing.
58 for 2 down, the Windies were struggling against the Pakistani spin attack. Simmons was the next victim. Tempted by Afridi, Simmons carved one over short extra cover but Umar Akmal bagged an amazing catch to dispatch him.
Simmons’ 51 off 48 was an invaluable knock for the hosts, after he fell, no other batsman could put up much against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 Caps.
Marlon Samuels was the highest scorer (29 runs) after Simmons while the right-arm fast bowler, Kemar Roach put up a good show near the end, he took the Windies over the 200 mark with his 24 run contribution.
With a total of 220 on the board, the Pakistani batsmen need 4.40 runs per over. The hosts will need to show some magic with the ball, the debutant leg-break spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anthony-Martin-c45051 and the seasoned Devendra Bishoo will be in the spot-light, it remains to
be seen whether they can put up a good show against the Men in Green.
