Fitness level of the Pakistan Squad for New Zealand satisfactory: Chief selector Moshin Khan
Pakistan's Chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
He said, “The players have shown an improvement and their overall fitness can be termed satisfactory.” But keeping in view http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s previous fitness problems, the selection committee has not been hasty in finalising the squad for the tour because according
to the chief selector, they want to send only the fittest players for the critical New Zealand tour.
Mohsin believes that any player who has a minor injury will not be able to survive this hard tour, and it is better to select someone who has a greater prospect of completing the tour without getting injured midway.
The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief selector said that most of the players have managed to prove their fitness in this camp. However he added that there were some players who still struggled to produce their best for the selectors, who have decided
to keep observing them until the end of the training camp. The selectors have decided that these players will only be given a clean chit, if these players manage to satisfy the selectors with their fitness levels.
Khan told reporters, “There are some players who are carrying niggles and although these are of minor nature, we will wait and see the players to recover from them. We will ensure that the niggles don’t turn into injuries.”
Pakistan are to play three Twenty20s, two Tests and six one-day international's in their tour of New Zealand. This tour is going be long and hectic and it is a wise decision by the board to select only fully fit players, who will be able to play the whole
series. This tour will also determine the players’ selection for the 2011 World Cup.
According to Moshin, the selection committee is only focusing on the New Zealand tour for now and once the team for this series is finalised, then the committee members will concentrate on their selection for the World Cup. However it is very clear that
the players who play well and stay fit in New Zealand, are most likely to get into the squad for the the World Cup.
Khan said that the players would undergo a tough fitness test, and there was absolutely no room for compromise on fitness levels.
