The current manager of the Pakistan team, Intikhab Alam has said that the team has full potential to pull off another World Cup victory if the senior players take full responsibility on their shoulders.
Intikhab believes that the team is on the right track in the build up to the 2011 world tournament. He said, “We are on the right track which I believe is a big plus for Pakistan. The team is shaping up well and up to a certain
extent we have got the right combination for the limited overs cricket.”
Intikhab believes that the senior players will have to repeat the history of 1992 World Cup where the seniors such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Young-c41367 inexperienced Pakistani side
to their first ever World Cup triumph.
He said, “Much will depend on how our senior players perform in the World Cup. They are the ones who will have a really important role to play because if they do well, other players will follow suit.”
Intikhab believes that pinning the hopes of a World Cup victory on the junior players will be unjustified because the senior players should have the courage of leading the team by example. Currently, players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482
and Younis Khan are idols for the younger lot in the squad. These seniors have the charisma to inspire the rest of the players if they manage to perform well.
The team manager has shown his full confidence in the coaching abilities of Waqar Younis, accepting the fact the Waqar is doing an exceptional job with the players and is trying his best to prepare the current team to take on the
world once the 2011 clash begins in February.
Intikhab has welcomed the appointment of legendary batsmen Javed Miandad as the batting consultant for the team and he feels that Javed will bring great improvement in the batting standard of the team. Alam has voiced his full
support for Javed and said that the board has taken a correct step in taking advantage of Javed’s potential as a batting consultant.
Alam praised the newcomers Asad Shafiq and Tanvir Ahmed for their performance in UAE against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. He said that he was genuinely satisfied with the performance of the team in the series against the mighty Afrikaans; however,
there is always room for improvement.
After 1992, this is perhaps the second time when Pakistan will be going into the World Cup with a young inexperienced side. The main cause of concern for Pakistan is the outcome of the spot-fixing case against three of its key
players (Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir). The exclusion of the pacers Amir and Asif has depleted Pakistan’s bowling attack largely because Pakistan were hoping to run havoc in the World Cup through the young sensation Mohammad Amir, who had been
performing astoundingly well before he was caught up in the spot-fixing scandal this summer during the tour of England.
For the time being, the Pakistan team is mentally preparing itself to go into the World Cup without the two tainted bowlers. The bowling attack will be spearheaded by Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul if ICC decides to ban Asif and Amir.
