Pakistan Under-19s v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup (Warm-Up Match) – Match Update
Leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Qadir-c94698 and left-hander Sami Aslam featured prominently in the Pakistan Under-19s' 8-wicket victory over the Papua New Guinea Under-19s, in their recent ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match, played at the Norman Gray Oval in Brisbane today
on August 8.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 U-19s won the toss and put their opponents to bat first, with Lega Siaka and Vagi Oala opening for their side.
The opening partnership did not last long, as Oala was dismissed on duck by Ehsan Adil (10-2-17-1) in the 4th over, although Siaka went on to top score for his side with 46.
The remainder of the top and most of the middle order remained fairly disappointing. Skipper Christopher http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 Afridi in the 15th over, and
Sese Bau (16) who followed, served as little more than Qadir’s (10-1-32-3) first scalp of the day.
By this point, Papua New Guinea had reached 83 for 3 by the 26th over, and Qadir dealt them another blow in the 30th over, with the dismissals of Siaka and Chad Soper (0). Raturima Maha (8) followed them to the pavilion in the 35th
over, after being caught out by Afridi off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zia-ul-Haq-c98603 (10-2-23-1), and things were beginning to look grim for the team, at 103 for 6.
However, wicketkeeper batsman Dogodo Bau (37) and Nigel Boge (41) lent some stability to the innings, and enabled their side to finish at 194 by the end of 50 overs.
The Pakistan U-19s, however, breezed through their 195-run chase, reaching 197 by the 33rd over, at the expense of just 2 wickets. Their innings was anchored by opener Sami Aslam’s massive 132, and although skipper and fellow opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122
(11) was unable to accompany him for long, Imam-ul-Haq (38*) proved to be an effective partner.
By the time Aslam was dismissed by Toua Tom in the 28th over, the Pakistan U-19s had reached 178. Haq and Umar Wheed (10*) provided the final runs required to get the team up to 197, with 8 wickets and 105 deliveries still remaining.
