Pakistan all-rounder Rana Naved-ul-Hasan signs a season-long deal with English county club Sussex
Pakistan’s discarded all-rounder Rana Naved-ul-Hasan has struck a deal with the English county club Sussex. According to details, the player has been signed for the whole season of 2011.
Naved was ignored by Pakistan for the ongoing series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) from a ban that was imposed on him last year for allegedly being involved in match-fixing.
The dynamic bowler/batsman is currently in Australia taking part in the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash tournament where the player has become one of the highest wicket-takers.
After getting his ban lifted, Rana had hoped to represent his country on the tour of New Zealand, but was disappointed when he was left out of the squad. After being dejected by the selection committee, the 32-year-old decided
to represent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s domestic Twenty20 tournament.
Rana first played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 in 2005; this was also his first experience of playing cricket for any English county club. However, his tenure with the club was cut short when the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made a rule
which allowed the county clubs only to field one overseas player. At that time, fellow Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed was also playing for Sussex, and as a result the club had to let Rana go.
The Pakistani all-rounder was then signed again by Sussex last year as a replacement for fellow all rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Arafat-c98241, who was called for national duty for the ICC’s World Twenty20 played in the Caribbean.
Naved tried to represent Pakistan in the five-day format of the game but was comparatively unsuccessful and could not compete with the presence of Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul. However, he had better luck in the ODI
format, where he has been useful for his national team, but with the induction of pace sensation Mohammad Amir, Rana soon found it difficult to keep his place in the team.
However, now that Asif and Amir are out of the team owing to the spot-fixing debacle, Rana has a chance to make his mark in next month’s World Cup - that is, if he is retained in the 15-member squad.
