Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the One Day International (ODI) and T20 squads for the upcoming series against South Africa, recalling Shahid Afridi in the 50-overs format.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, having struggled to deliver the goods with either bat or ball in 2012. However, the all-rounder was given a chance to prove his fitness during Afghanistan’s recent series against
Pakistan ‘A’.
While announcing the squads, chief selector of the PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980 expressed that the Proteas are not very strong against spin bowling, which is the reason why Afridi has been recalled to the 50-overs version of the sport.
“He [Afridi] played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745, basically we wanted to assess his fitness and he is fully fit,” Qasim said. “They [South Africa] are playing well against fast bowling and our pacers are struggling, so having variety in spin
will prove beneficial. The decision to pick Afridi is based on his quality of right-arm leg spin.”
The former Test cricketer is of the opinion that Boom Boom can still make an impact in international cricket; however, he refused to guarantee him a place in the playing eleven.
“I am not saying go and play him in the XI, my mind says we have to have some variety. Our task is to select the best lot to play against South Africa and Afridi has a role to play with his variety in his bowling,” the chief selector
added.
Having missed the Test series, some of the senior cricketers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890, the right-handed batsman, who struggled with form in the initial
two Tests against South Africa, has been dropped from the ODI squad, although he scored a valiant half-century in the second innings of the Cape Town Test.
