Pakistan announce squad for U-19 Asia Cup – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board, on Wednesday announced its 16-member squad for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council’s Under-19 Cup, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later this month.
Most of the players who played in the three-match youth ODI series against South Africa earlier this year, have been retained in the squad.
The 17-year-old talented batsman Babar Azam has been appointed as the captain of the young squad for the regional one day tournament. Azam was part of PCB Blues, who played PCB Greens in the recently concluded Twenty20 practice matches
in Lahore. The teenager also had an impressive run in this year’s Faysal Bank One Day National Cup, during which he compiled a tally of 265 runs from five matches. The tally also included a hundred and two half centuries. Azam has so far played 16 List A matches
and holds an impressive average of 57.78 with the bat.
Leg-spin bowler Usman Qadir, son of the legendary leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Qadir-c41605, earned selectors' nod based on his impressive performance during the tour of South Africa in January this year. Usman, who has been part of Pakistan’s Under-19
setup since 2009, claimed 15 scalps from 10 matches at an average of 23.80 during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 itinerary, which included a tri-nation and a bilateral series. The 18-year-old right-arm leg-spinner has played six List A matches as well and has five wickets
in his name.
Another leg-spinner who has been called into the squad for the U-19 Asia Cup is Akhtar Waheed Kiyani. Opening batsman Faraz Ali and left-arm fast bowler Zia-ul-Haq also found their places in the squad. Zia plays for Pakistan International
Airlines in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. Wicket-keeper batsman Salman Afridi, who had replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saifullah-c87956 Bangash for the youth series in South Africa, will continue keeping the wickets.
