Pakistan-born leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who was picked up in South Africa's 30-man provisional squad for next month’s World Cup, said on Monday that if he makes a cut in the final 15-member squad he will give his absolute best to his adopted
country in the mega cricketing event which gets underway on 19 February 2011.
The 31-year-old Pakistan based bowler replaced batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Vandiar-c1730 in South Africa’s preliminary World Cup squad on Monday and has his eyes set on the flight which will take the 15-member Proteas final squad to the subcontinent next
month to participate in the esteemed World Cup event from 19 February to 4 April 2011.
Tahir said that being picked up in top 30 players list is an honour for him and was hopeful about making the final squad as well.
"It's a very big honour for me. It's the only dream I've had. It's every cricketer's dream to play in the World Cup,” said the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 based leg-spinner. “I am very pleased to be in the top 30 players list. Hopefully, I get picked (in
the final 15) and I will give my 100 % for South Africa," he added further.
Tahir was granted citizenship of South Africa last month and was soon allowed by the Cricket South Africa to represent the Proteas in international cricket. The Pakistan born was subsequently selected in the ODI squad of South Africa to
play five-match home series against India which commences in Durban on Wednesday.
Tahir conceded that it has always been a test of a spinner’s capabilities when bowling against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, however he was confident that he will be perform well if given a chance to bowl against Dhoni’s men.
“I've been bowling well, the whole season. I've bowled well in county cricket and I am confident of doing well if given a chance," said the spin bowler.
Tahir, who has been playing for Pakistan A team, represents city-based Dolphins in the domestic circuit of South Africa. With 42 first-class wickets from just five games, Tahir is leading the wickets chart of SuperSport Series, South Africa’s
domestic first-class tournament.
Talking about his role in the side, the 31-year-old said that he has always been an attacking bowler and would be happy to get wickets for the Proteas as well when playing for them.
"I have always been an attacking bowler. I might go for runs but I will get wickets and I think that's my role. But whatever suits the team, I will bowl accordingly.
He is likely to make his debut when Proteas play against India in the first ODI in Durban on 12 January 2011.
