Pakistan batsmen crumble on a challenging Providence wicket as the West Indians gain ascendancy in first Test
WI 226 98 overs PAK 113/ 6 47 overs
Debutant leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo wreaked havoc as the poor Pakistani batting line-up was exposed on a wearing wicket on day two of their first test match against the West Indians, being played at the Providence in Guyana.
Pakistan was left tottering at 113/6 at tea as an inspired spell by Bishoo, who was well supported by Darren Sammy, left the team reeling and facing the prospects of a heavy defeat with the match less than two days old.
The tourists started their innings disastrously; the man in form, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 dragged a ball from Ravi Rampaul onto his stumps after making only 4 runs.
The second wicket pair of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taufeeq-Umar-c92889 and Azhar Ali stabilized things for the visitors with a 52-run stand for the second wicket. The two looked set for bigger things, however, the post lunch session swung the match in the favour of the hosts.
Taufeeq was adjudged lbw off a ball from Sammy; he hung around for an uninspiring 19 off 62 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 was also trapped in front of the stumps and like his captain,
contributed a mere 2 runs.
It went from bad to worse for the tourists as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890’s defiance was broken by Sammy soon after. The right hander scored 34 off 73 balls before an in-cutter clattered into his stumps.
Wicket-keeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Salman-c77287 was also dismissed lbw by Bishoo, the right hander scored just 4 runs in his debut test innings.
The pair of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 took Pakistan to the tea session without further damage. However, the stunning collapse which saw them lose 5 wickets for only 23 runs can be detrimental to their chances of winning the match.
Earlier, the hosts were bowled out for 226 in their first innings, the last wicket to fall was off Kemar Roach who was snapped by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 as the off-spinner collected his 5-wicket haul.
