The Pakistani national assembly has sought an explanation from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 over the controversial Pakistani tour of England. Pakistan were involved in six Test matches,
five ODIs and four T20Is on their tour of England against the hosts and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. Their on-field performance was below par, but what hurt their image even more was the off-field controversies.
Iqbal Muhammad Ali, chairman of the committee that summoned Butt, told PTI that the hearing was being held to investigate the causes of the performances of the Pakistani team on the tour of England.
“The committee wants to know the reasons for the shoddy performances and also how the Pakistan team got entangled into such serious controversies. We also want to know the reason for Butt's statement against
the England board and his U-turn, and to review the selection process,” said Ali.
First, three of the Pakistani cricketers were involved in a spot-fixing allegation for which the International Cricket Council suspended the trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. This was
followed by another controversy in which the ICC said that the Oval ODI could have been fixed by some of the Pakistani cricketers as well. Butt did not help matters when he claimed that the English team was involved in match-fixing, before having to retract
the statement and apologise on his own and the PCB’s behalf.
The assembly has also asked the PCB’s legal counsel, Tafazzul Rizvi, manager on the English tour, Yawar Saeed, Pakistani coaches Waqar Younis, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 for the same.
Khan will be there to explain the controversy over the non-selection of player Younis Khan. Younis and some of the other cricketers were dropped from the side after being banned by the PCB. However, while
the rest of the players were reinstated after their appeals, Younis has yet to be called back.
