Pakistan captain Shahaid Afridi wants number of UDRS appeals to be increased
The flamboyant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, on Friday backed the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) and wants the International Cricket Council to increase the number of appeals allowed to a particular team in an innings.
“The use of the UDRS is a positive development and it would not be a bad idea if its use is increased in the remaining matches of the World Cup and even after that,” he said.
Pakistan benefited immensely from the technology in the ongoing mega event and specifically during last night’s close contest against tournament minnows http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748. Many of the decisions of on-field umpires, Nigel Long and Darrel Harper, were
over-turned after review.
Afridi said that the technology has ensured minimum errors during the game and most of the teams are satisfied with it as it has worked pretty well for them so far in the show piece event.
Afridi, who is famous for his hard-hitting batting style is a tremendous leg-spinner as well and is leading the wickets chart of the tournament with 14 wickets from just three games, including two five-wicket hauls as well. He said that
he is quite happy for leading Pakistan attack from the front. However, he did say that he would love to see other bowlers picking up wickets as well and was quite confident they will fire as the tournament progressed.
“They have bowled well but have been unlucky. I just think I am more lucky to have got the wickets. It feels good to be taking wickets for your team,” said Afridi. “I am pretty confident that as the others would also start taking wickets
as the tournament progressed,” he added.
Afridi conceded that Pakistan’s batting against Canada was below par and insisted that the team needs to bring consistency in all three departments of game - batting, bowling and fielding – if they are to reach the final of the prestigious
tournament.
