Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi available for the West Indies tour
Pakistan’s One-Day and Twenty20 captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. Earlier, the veteran player requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for some rest after he returned from India, where he led the side
in the ICC World Cup 2011.
However, the 31-year-old stated, “I had decided to skip the tour because I wanted to take a break from the game, but some former players and my family and friends told me to change my decision at this crucial time for Pakistan cricket.”
Afridi further said, “One of the main reasons I wanted to take a break was because I wanted to be with my father who is not keeping well. But my father insisted that I carry on with the Pakistan team.”
According to Afridi, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 was in a very good position to develop as a strong team for the future and he was ready to continue performing for the team consistently.
The flamboyant cricketer led his team to the semi-final of the Mega Event, taking 21 wickets in eight games. He was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament until http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Khan-c98451 equaled his wickets tally. The left-arm seamer played one additional
match though, as the Men in Blue qualified for the final.
Pakistan were expected to be no where before the start of the ICC World Cup 2011. The team faced a lot of controversies and lost several key players following spot-fixing scandals.
However, captain Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis gelled the team nicely and went into the World Cup with a Test and One-Day series win against New Zealand, on their home soil.
The winning momentum seemed to work for Pakistan, as they started their World Cup campaign with three consecutive victories. However, the team had one bad game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, which put them on the back-foot.
The Men in Green were down, but certainly not out as they fought back to end Australia’s unbeaten run of 34 World Cup matches since 1999. This performance helped Pakistan to finish at top of their group and they continued to perform well in the knockout
stages.
Although Pakistan lost the semi-final to arch rivals India, the team was appreciated by millions of fans back home.
