Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi says they need to learn use of batting powerplays – Cricket news
Pakistan One Day International skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has admitted that the team needs to learn how to utilise the batting powerplays effectively in the 50-over format.
Acknowledging the fact that the side faces the problem of losing too many wickets during the batting powerplays, the captain expressed that he had discussed the issue in detail with coach Waqar Younis. He added that the management has been trying hard to
sort it out before the start of the ODI series against West Indies.
Earlier in the ICC World Cup 2011, Pakistan were slammed for their use of the batting powerplay in the high-voltage semi-final against archrivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Responding to the question about the timing of the powerplay, Afridi confessed that his team had not been very good in utilising it efficiently.
“We need to learn how to utilise the batting powerplay,” said Afridi. “Quite a few teams have faced problems in regards to the batting powerplay. For us, when we take the batting powerplay, we start losing wickets, so then we thought it’s probably best to
delay the powerplay and take it right at the end to avoid losing wickets earlier.”
Afridi was inspirational in the Pakistan’s recent World Cup campaign. The leg-spinner picked up 21 wickets in the mega event, which eventually helped the team to reach the knockout stage. However, the delayed decision of taking batting powerplay in the semi-final
rubbished all his previous efforts.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 are scheduled to play a five-match ODI series against West Indies, starting from 23 April, 2011.
Afridi has vowed to learn from previous mistakes and show up with better results against the Windies.
The captain further explained that his focus is on bowling and fortunately, things have been going pretty well as far as that is concerned.
Afridi’s batting was awful during the recently concluded mega event. The skipper could not demonstrate any notable performance as his highest score in the showpiece event was a paltry 20 runs.
He was hugely criticised for his terrible batting in the World Cup. However, according to the man himself, he has been taking the criticism positively and is looking to make the most of the forthcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
