A source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that national team captain Shahid Afridi will not be a part of the squad which will tour the West Indies later this month. After a good performance in the ICC World Cup 2011, Pakistan were defeated
in the semi-finals by arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on Saturday, 30th March.
According to the source, “Afridi has told the Pakistan Cricket Board that he should not be considered for the coming tour as he wants to rest for a while from competitive cricket. He has said that right now he is not in the state of mind to go on tour after
the gruelling World Cup campaign and wants a break from the game.”
Afridi was terrific for his team in the World Cup, as he grabbed 21 wickets in total to become the highest wicket-taker in the tournament so far. The veteran all-rounder was disappointed after his team’s loss in the semi-final, but claimed that he was proud
to lead such a spirited team.
The 31-year-old also apologised to his fans, saying that the team did their best to win, but India played better on the day.
Pakistan’s fielding was one of the main reasons behind the defeat, as they dropped four catches of the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. He went onto score 85 runs off 115 balls, which proved to be a match-winning knock in the end.
There were some positives for the Men in Green, as some of the youngsters did a brilliant job for the team in the Mega Event. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 wasn’t a consistent member of the team since he first appeared on the international scene. However, his valiant effort
against India proved his worth to the entire nation. The left-arm seamer ended up with a five-wicket haul in the semi-final clash.
Other than Wahab, there were a couple of other youngsters who rose to the occasion and performed for their team. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 was exceptional when he first came onto the scene, but his form hadn’t been good in the recent past. However, he scored runs consistently
during the World Cup, cementing his place in the team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 was the other batsman, who impressed one and all with his temperament and technique. He wasn’t included in the first half of the tournament, but once he got an opportunity, he made the most of it.
