Pakistan cricket team head coach Waqar Younis is expecting his new-look side to put up a good performance in their ongoing tour to West Indies.
The former fast bowler hoped that the players would emulate their ICC World Cup 2011 performance and continue with the good work.
Enormously delighted over his team’s splendid victory in the first One Day International after a humiliating defeat in the Twenty20 contest, the coach cited the Caribbean tour as a great opportunity for youngsters to make an impact at the international level.
“We have brought some young cricketers on this tour. It’s a rebuilding sort of phase. I hope these youngsters do well in the international arena and do well on this trip,” Waqar said.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 outclassed the opposition in both bowling and batting and notched a convincing win chasing a manageable total of 221.
Heaping praise on players for their outstanding work in the first game, Waqar seemed quite satisfied with his team’s efforts and hoped that the Cornered Tigers would continue their ruthless march in the remaining games of the series.
“The boys have done a wonderful job, especially in the World Cup. We knew if we played well, cricket interest would come back in the country. The only way we could have done that was to do well,” the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain added.
Waqar further admired Mohammad Hafeez for his wonderful all-round performance in the previous game. The former reverse-swing maestro explained that the Caribbean tour is the right opportunity for the team management to gauge the talent of young players.
Waqar further explained that things are heading in the right direction for the side. Admitting the fact that there are several problems in Pakistan’s batting department, he vowed to address the shortcoming very soon.
Meanwhile, the coach claimed that the team was putting in a lot of devotion and hard work and they know that the opponents would come hard on them in the upcoming games.
Pakistan are due to play the second match of the ODI series against the hosts at St. Lucia on Monday, April 25, 2011.
