The whole cricketing world and the fans all around the world have a big question in their minds and that is about Pakistan cricket’s future. The question remains answerless as the current mismanagement of Pakistan Cricket Board does not seem to have a direction.
However, the only appropriate answer that comes into mind is that we cannot predict about Pakistan cricket and no one knows what is going to happen as Pakistani players and management can do anything at any time.
If we have a glance at the happenings of Pakistan cricket during the last 2 years, it reveals a horrible picture. Although the matters were not smooth in the regime of Dr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasim-Ashraf-c78712 either, but they got from bad to worse with the arrival of Ijaz Butt
as the head of Pakistan cricket. The current management has given a chance to International Cricket Council and other cricket boards to raise fingers towards Pakistan.
PCB is being run on an adhoc basis and there is no logic behind their decision making.
In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 were so angry at the senior players of Pakistani team that they decided to ban Muhammad Yousaf and Younis Khan for an indefinite period of time. Shoaib Malik and Rana Naveed ul Hassan were banned for 1 year and Shahid
Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal were heavily fined. There was no clear reason given by the PCB for imposing such huge bans and fines on the players apart from blaming them for bringing infighting within the team and having a bad influence on the dressing
room atmosphere.
Anyone who has been following Pakistani cricket for the last 4-5 years could have predicted that these bans will be lifted eventually. That’s exactly what happened and within 6 months, all the bans were lifted and the fines were reduced. In any other country,
a life or indefinite ban would have been taken as a serious thing.
The way PCB has handled the spot-fixing issue is an irony. Initially, PCB stood by the 3 players including the then test captain and opener Salman Butt and 2 most promising seamers in international cricket, Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Asif. After the ICC
put pressure on PCB, it totally started ignoring these players as if they have been proved guilty. The situation right now is that these stars of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket cannot even train at the National Cricket Academy or take part in any domestic game.
A mere example of PCB lacking consistency in their decision making is that Misbah ul Haq is 6th player to captain the Pakistani team in the last 2 years. It makes things more ironic that Misbah was not even a part of the squad for the last 2 test
series that Pakistan played. Apart from captaincy, PCB has tried 3 different coaches and same number of selection committees.
At present, Pakistani cricket seems to be going in the reverse gear and there is no clear direction or vision. Cricket is the only major sport left in Pakistan that can bring a smile on the faces of the people in the country but unfortunately, it does not
seem to be in the right hands. Somebody needs to step up and put the house in order.
