Pakistan cricketers criticize Zulqarnain Haider’s decision to flee
Pakistan all-rounder and runaway wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider’s teammate, Abdul http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Razzaq-c84421, has called Haider’s decision to flee the team hotel for London “a big mistake”. Razzaq rather feels he should have informed the senior players or team
management before deciding on his own discretion.
"I don't think he did the right thing. He made a big mistake. If he had any issues he should have told the senior players or the management", said Razzaq while talking to the media person on his return from Dubai.
The seasoned player, who enjoyed a historic match-winning innings in the second one-day of the five-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Abu Dhabi, said that the troubled wicket keeper was a promising addition to the side but his absence
would count for a little in Pakistan’s performance in the future.
Zulqarnain Haider, who was included into the squad for a neutral venue series against the Proteas as Kamran Akmal’s replacement, fled Dubai for London claiming he was getting threats from match-fixers for his performance in the 4th
ODI – a match that was won by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by one wicket and one ball remaining.
Haider took his passport from team management on the eve of the final and deciding ODI, on the pretext of buying a SIM card and left for England on Monday morning. The Pakistan team was without a backup wicketkeeper so the place behind the
stumps became a big question mark for the tour selectors with just hours remaining in the match to get start.
Umar Akmal, the youngest of the Akmal brothers was given the responsibility in the end but all this brought embarrassment once again for a side already confronting various controversies and scandals.
Asif Iqbal, a former Pakistan cricket captain, has also lashed out at Haider's decision to leave the team hotel without consulting the team management or any of his teammates. Iqbal said that Haider has done something very wrong and his
childish decision has brought a bad name to Pakistan’s cricket, which is already struggling in the international arena. The former skipper also said that the frightened glove-man does not deserve the attention the media is giving him after his reproachful
step.
Iqbal further added that if Haider was being harassed and did not have faith in his team management he could have approached ICC headquarters for security and guidance as the ICC headquarters is in Dubai itself. The former Pakistan all-rounder
has urged media to “completely black him out”.
