Pakistan hammer Australia by seven wickets in the T20I opener - Cricket News Roundup – Part 1 – September 06, 2012
Pakistan on Wednesday, handed Australia their heaviest T20I defeat ever, in terms of balls remaining, winning the opening match of the three-match T20I series, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Australia just had no answer to Pakistan’s bowling as they were reduced to 89 runs in 19.3 overs with the Pakistan bowlers getting the better of their opponents.
From Australia, David Warner, was the highest scoring batsman with a knock of 22 runs before he was caught and bowled by Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez.
Pakistan then launched a steady run chase and reached the tally in 14.5 overs with three wickets down.
Both sides will now meet in the second fixture at the same venue on Friday, September 07.
Mohammad Hafeez is proud while George Bailey disappointed by the top-order batsmen. After securing a massive win against Australia, Mohammad Hafeez is nothing but proud of his boys who stuck to the plan and left the Australians in ruins.
Speaking in the post-match ceremony, the Pakistan skipper said, “Great team effort. Bowlers stuck to their plans, Raza Hasan showed a lot of character for a debutant."
Meanwhile, the Aussie skipper expressing his regret said, “Completely outplayed. The pitch was a little bit slow, but the top order need to bat for longer and score more runs, that is the name of the game in T20. We are working towards the World T20, and this is the first step towards that."
South Africa on Wednesday levelled the five-match one-day series against hosts England by winning the series finale, at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
With England leading, the hosts had a chance to lift the NatWest Series after clobbering a total of 182 runs.
However, even with all their efforts, the English bowlers were halted by a match-winning partnership between Hashim Amla and skipper AB de Villiers with the two batsmen staying unbeaten on 97 and 75 runs.
England did however, jolt the visitors by nabbing three wickets with only 14 runs before being bulldozed by the match-winning duo.
“We were disappointing in the middle of the series but we came good and 2-2 away from home is a good effort,” said the South African skipper.
