Pakistan has not hosted ICC event for more than 10 Years - PCB bids for 2018 tournament
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has showed its strong willingness to organise International Cricket Council (ICC)’s tournament till 2018.
Subhan Ahmed, the Chief Operating Officer of PCB, expressed his disappointment for not getting an opportunity to host cricket series in Pakistan since 1996.
"By the time 2018 comes around, we will have gone 22 years without hosting a major tournament which isn't right", he stated.
According to Subhan, all the full members of the ICC have had an opportunity to host mega events, but Pakistan is the only country, who is deprived of hosting cricket fixtures.
Only one time in the history of cricket, Pakistan was given the chance to organise the World Cup on its home ground.,
Pakistan was the co-host of the World Cup in 1996 along with its neighbours, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, and, India, the final was played at Lahore.
Since then the international governing body of cricket has given the chance to all Test playing members to host ICC tournaments.
In 1999, the Cricket World Cup was played in England. South Africa, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 hosted the event in 2003. Caribbean soil was selected for 2007’s tournament.
Recently Sub-continental countries, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, have organised the contest jointly.
Pakistan was supposed to host the event along with other sub-continental countries, but failed to do so because of uncertain security reasons.
Now, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 are going to host the World Cup together in 2015.
Meanwhile, in 2007 the first World Twenty20 Championship was played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 organised the event.
However, PCB has showed its eagerness to host the ICC’s T20 tournament in 2018, and in this regard they put up a strong statement.
"We need to be seen to be doing something about it and getting the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 press release to acknowledge it sends a strong signal that we are trying to bring cricket back here", the Chief Operating Officer said.
"When discussions began in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919, we saw an event in 2018 and saw it wasn't allocated to anyone so we decided to bid for it", he added.
