Pakistan junior hockey team make a great start at the Junior Asia Cup Hockey tournament
Pakistan under-18 squad brilliantly started their campaign at the Junior Asia Cup Hockey tournament which is being played in Singapore. The Pakistan’s junior boys, who are also the defending champions of the Junior Asia Cup, started their title’s defence
in a fine fashion by winning both of their initial group matches in a spectacular style.
They started the event as expected by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials and the team management. Asif Bajwa, the Secretary of PHF, stated his views about the preparation and the capabilities of the team prior to their beginning of the
event.
“Expectations are high from the junior team and we are hoping that they would defend Junior Asia Cup title successfully. Our young lot is very talented and moreover they have been working very hard for the Junior Asia Cup, which strengthen our hopes
further of their successful show in the event once more,” Asif Bajwa, the Secretary of PHF had stated about the team.
“They (junior players) have worked very hard and have gone through extensive training camp under our qualified coaches. They are now in good momentum and eager to display their brilliance in the event,” Asif Bajwa further stated.
The Greenshirts have defeated their opponents, Brunei and Taiwan, by a huge margin in both of their two games at group level. Both games were goal-studded by the Green-shirts.
In their first match, Pakistan’s junior boys thrashed Brunei by 18-0 in an entirely dominated game by the Greenshirts. The result itself tells the helplessness of the Brunei team who could not score even a single goal. Pakistani boys scored the goals
in the first as well as in the second half. Nine out of the total of eighteen were scored in the first half and remaining nine were scored in the second half.
Waseem Abbas, the drag flicker, was the star performer of the match with seven strikes, while Bilal Qadir and Asad Bashir scored four goals each. Mohammad Irfan, Arsalan Qadir and Rana Umair made their contribution by scoring a goal each.
In the second match against Taiwan, the Greenshirts repeated the same display and defeated their opponents by 17-0. Greenshirts scored seven of the seventeen goals in the first half and remaining ten in the second half.
Asad Bashir was the real threat to watch who scored six goals, while Bilal Qadir made three strikes. Among the other scorers were Arsalan Qadir, Mohammad Irfan and Rana Umair with two goals each while Rizwan Ali and Waseem Abbas scored one goal each.
