Pakistan junior hockey team officials optimistic about the Egypt Series – Hockey News
With the recent five-test series starting this week from August 6 to 12 between Pakistan’s junior men’s side and Egypt’s senior side in Cairo, Egypt, the Pakistan team officials are optimistic about the team’s performance.
The team’s chief coach as well as manager, Rana Mujahid was confident about the squad selected for the tour that contains remarkable players, who are all set to show their talent at the international appearance.
Mujahid said, “I am confident that our team can win the five-match Test series. The boys are training well and they have been making efforts to improve their form in order to impress the selectors so that they may be considered when the selectors select
the national senior team in future.”
According to the coach, the players are aware that their career needs to open up well and it requires stamina and effort.
Rana believes that the young players need to experience the international taste of hockey because playing at home and playing on the opponent’s ground are two different things. It is because when a team performs in a foreign place, the players need to perform
under-pressure.
Therefore, the federation is trying hard to arrange tours so that they get trained on how to overcome pressure.
Mujahid shared the fact that even though the Egypt senior hockey team is not a well-ranked team at the international level, however, Pakistan’s junior side will get to learn a lot while playing against the veterans at their homeland.
On the other hand, former Olympian, Shenaz Sheikh raised critics over the federation by calling these tours as a show-off attempt to improve their national image.
He added, “After the failure of the senior team in the Europe tour and the junior hockey team’s below-par performance in the Junior Asia Cup, the federation is trying to show the country that they are going in the right direction.”
However, even if the young players win over a below-par senior hockey team like Egypt, it will still not be counted as a big achievement for them.
